The Karachi Leg Begins
After 14 matches at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, PSL 2026 moves to its second venue: the National Stadium in Karachi.
This is the first match of the Karachi leg, bringing a different pitch profile, different weather, and most importantly, the return of public match attendance.
Karachi’s cricket fans have waited for this moment, and the National Stadium crowd will provide the kind of atmosphere that has been absent from all 14 matches played behind closed doors in Lahore.

Top run-scorer: Sahibzada Farhan (Multan) — leading with 17 sixes in the tournament Top wicket-taker: Hasan Ali (Karachi) — 8 wickets
Hyderabad Kingsmen — Four Losses and Counting
HYK have now lost all four of their PSL 2026 matches. As a debut franchise, this is deeply disappointing — but not entirely unexpected.
The tournament’s inaugural edition for any franchise is historically difficult. What has been consistently concerning is not just the losses, but the patterns within them:
Their matches:
- M1 (vs LQ): Lost by 69 runs — bowled out for 130 (LQ 199/6)
- M5 (vs QTG): Lost by 40 runs — made 134 but QTG 174/8 was too much
- M8 (vs MUL): Lost by 6 wkts — despite 225/5 (Maaz Sadaqat 62/26, Sharjeel 51), Farhan’s 106* chased it
- M12 or subsequent: Lost again
Key stats from ESPNcricinfo:
- Maaz Sadaqat: 62 runs at SR 221.42 — their most explosive batter when he’s on
- Irfan Khan: 59 runs across 3 matches — their most consistent accumulator
HYK Probable XI: Saim Ayub, Maaz Sadaqat, Marnus Labuschagne (c), Usman Khan (wk), Sharjeel Khan, Syed Saad Ali, Irfan Khan, Hassan Khan, Maheesh Theekshana, Riley Meredith, Akif Javed
What HYK can draw on against PSZ: The Karachi surface is different from Lahore’s Gaddafi. A home supporter crowd will also benefit Karachi-based players (none in HYK’s squad directly). HYK do have Glenn Maxwell joining in the second half of the season — his arrival could transform their batting. But tonight, they must do it without him.
Glenn Maxwell update: According to pre-tournament information, Maxwell was “only expected for the second half of the season.” PSL match 15 (April 8) may be just at the boundary of that window — check team announcements. If Maxwell plays tonight, HYK’s batting order is completely transformed.
Peshawar Zalmi — The Babar Azam Factor
Peshawar Zalmi are unbeaten (1W, 1NR in first 2 matches) and now enter the Karachi leg with momentum. Their batting depth — anchored by Babar Azam — is the tournament’s most reliable top-order combination.
PSZ Probable XI: Babar Azam (c), Mohammad Haris, Kusal Mendis (wk), Aaron Hardie, Farhan Yousuf, Michael Bracewell, Abdul Samad, Aamer Jamal, Sufiyan Muqeem, Ali Raza, Shoriful Islam
Babar Azam’s form: ESPNcricinfo shows Babar with 327 runs in his last 10 T20Is at avg 40.88 and SR 130.8. This is excellent T20 form for a player of his elegance — he’s clearly in rhythm heading into Karachi, where he is effectively the home team’s adopted hero given KK’s David Warner is their captain.
Mohammad Haris: 281 runs in last 10 T20Is at SR 151.07 — an explosive foil to Babar’s more measured approach. The Babar-Haris opening partnership is potentially PSL 2026’s best.
Ali Raza and Khurram Shahzad’s bowling: Both have “delivered impactful performances” according to Tapmad’s preview. This bowling attack, supplemented by Sufiyan Muqeem’s left-arm spin and Shoriful Islam’s left-arm pace, is PSZ’s most complete asset.
Venue — National Stadium, Karachi
Karachi’s National Stadium is one of Pakistan’s most iconic cricket grounds:
- Known for producing high-scoring encounters, especially in night matches — confirmed in pre-match analysis
- The outfield is fast and the pitch typically offers good carrying height
- Karachi’s sea-level conditions contrast sharply with Lahore’s inland heat — the ball tends to swing more in Karachi’s humid sea air
- After playing 14 matches behind closed doors in Lahore, the Karachi crowd will be HYK’s biggest challenge and PSZ’s biggest advantage — Babar Azam playing in front of Karachi fans is electric
Key Player Battles
Babar Azam vs Maheesh Theekshana: Pakistan’s most technically correct T20 batter vs Sri Lanka’s mystery spinner. Theekshana’s carrom ball and off-cutter at different paces is how you can contain even Babar. If Theekshana bowls 4 overs in the 7th-15th over range against Babar, this is the series’ defining individual battle at this venue.
Riley Meredith vs Babar Azam (powerplay): Meredith’s raw Australian pace (140+ km/h) at Karachi’s sea-level altitude — where the ball swings more — could challenge even Babar in the first 4 overs. Meredith has been HYK’s best bowler statistically despite the team’s losses.
Saim Ayub vs Ali Raza: HYK’s most exciting young batter vs PSZ’s left-arm seam. Ali Raza’s angle around the wicket to right-handed Ayub creates genuine dismissal opportunities in the first 4 overs.
Hyderabad Kingsmen vs Peshawar Zalmi Prediction
- Predicted Winner: Peshawar Zalmi (70%)
PSZ are significantly stronger than HYK in every department:
- Babar Azam + Haris opening is the tournament’s best opening pair
- Their bowling (Ali Raza, Sufiyan Muqeem, Shoriful Islam) is more varied and experienced than HYK’s
- They are unbeaten while HYK have 0 wins
- The Karachi crowd will energise Babar specifically
HYK can win if: Glenn Maxwell appears and bats from No.3 (transforming their middle order), plus Riley Meredith takes 3+ wickets in the powerplay vs PSZ’s top order. Two significant “ifs” that together constitute about a 30% chance.
Dream11 Best XI
Captain: Babar Azam (PSZ) — The dominant form player in this match. 327 runs in last 10 T20Is, SR 130.8, batting first in front of Karachi fans, against the weakest bowling attack in the tournament. His ceiling for 60-80 runs tonight is real.
Vice-Captain: Mohammad Haris (PSZ) — 281 runs in last 10 T20Is at SR 151.07. As the explosive foil to Babar’s elegance, Haris has a higher SR ceiling. If PSZ bat first, Haris + Babar posting 55+ in the powerplay is achievable.
Differential: Maaz Sadaqat (HYK) — 62 runs at SR 221.42 in just 2 matches. Most fantasy users will load PSZ heavily (correct) and leave all HYK slots for one or two picks. Sadaqat is HYK’s only player with a genuine big-score ceiling. At a lower fantasy price, his Karachi debut could produce a 40-ball 60 that surprises.
Suggested XI:
- WK: Usman Khan (HYK), Kusal Mendis (PSZ)
- Batters: Babar Azam (C), Mohammad Haris (VC), Saim Ayub, Maaz Sadaqat (Diff)
- All-rounders: Aaron Hardie, Marnus Labuschagne
- Bowlers: Maheesh Theekshana, Riley Meredith, Ali Raza
PSZ:HYK ratio — 7:4
